Pearl Authenticity Certificates

We have many times been asked by our customers if a Certificate of Authenticity will be enclosed when they get their pearl jewelry. At ShecyPearls, every piece of Pearl Jewelry comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Pearl Jewelry Certificate at ShecyPearls assures you that the pearl jewelry you are getting is an actual Shecy product and guarantees the quality and craftsmanship of our pearl jewelry product. ShecyPearls certifies that all pearl jewelry are strictly examined and of 100% authenticity in accordance with the description.

Pearl Certificates of Authenticity is an evident to prove the pearl identity. The certificate is an important issue when it comes to investment quality pearl jewelry. For anything less, a good origin certificate is a bonus. It is an expert's assurance that we got what we paid for. Meanwhile, the certificate is assurance of the investment value of your pearl jewelry in future. Anything bought with investment in mind, should have a reasonable increase in value in time in order to be sold with profit. Pearl jewelry is an investment in beauty and pride of ownership, but not an investment upon which one can reasonably expect to make a profit. Therefore, please do remember, that when you buy, someone is making a profit. The only purpose of the pearl jewelry is to be beautiful. That’s to say, to choose a piece of pearl jewelry only for its foremost purpose - its beauty, and for this, your best advisor is your eye, not certificate. Pearl jewelry and flowers are beautiful, but they are beautiful precisely because they are expensive and lack intrinsic value, which is why it is mostly women who think flowers and jewelry are beautiful. Their beauty lies in their inherent uselessness.

If you are interested in the pearl jewelry at our store, but still feel hesitate to purchase. Go to a local jeweler and ask to see few similar styles, without knowing the certificate details and price. Make your first, second and third choice and then ask for the price. Ask for the price alone and then with the price in mind, look at our pearl jewelry again and figure out if the difference in price corresponds to the difference in appearance, remembering that beauty is the sole purpose of pearl jewelry. Only then ask for the certificates and decide for yourself the level of their importance.

DIY your Jewelry with ShecyPearls

At Shecy Pearl Jewelry, we not only provide awesome pearl earrings, necklaces, bracelets and pendants, but also loose pearls and unfinished pearl strands. They are already for your own design. Pearls are popular craft product as they lend an element of mystery, natural beauty to jewelry designs, but making homemade pearl requires the ability to drill holes in dense, strong material that can't be cut without special tools. However, you do not need to worry. We can drill for you for free!

We have many times been questioned about half-drilled and full-drilled pearls. Half-drilled and full-drilled pearls are used for different jewelry. Half-drilled pearl is with a hole that goes only half-way through, instead of all the way through like a normal pearl. There are many findings that are made to take half-drilled pearls, like ring settings and earring posts. For half-drilled pearls, the hole length generally account for about two thirds or three fourths of the diameter of the pearl. Full-drilled pearl with a hole that a wire thread can go through. It is often used for necklaces and pendants. We drilled pearls by manual labor many years ago. Now, we use small drilling machines to make the whole process precise and easy. Various methods have been used for drilling pearls. Generally speaking, we place the pearl at a certain angle from the two sides, and the two holes meet at the centre at last. Some customers ask us if it is possible to drill pearls in size 2-3mm. From the technically perspective, the minimum diameter is 0.3mm for drill holes. As a matter of fact, it is really tough to drill in such small pearls.

The pearls are usually fixed onto a piece of jewelry using special glues, which make up of shellac, turpentine and colophonium. These special glues are used to stick the drilled pearl onto the metal findings. Mix and glue them, and push the metal end to the hole of pearl. It is common for pearls to come loose from rings, earrings and necklaces because pearls are soft and easy to be damaged. Most glue will soften with heat and pearl can easily pull off from the peg. Therefore, they should be protected from extreme temperatures and moisture. If the pearl on your ring or earring has fall off, just keep calm. You can repair it yourself. In fact, it's quite easy to glue a pearl onto a ring or earring if it has come loose. Firstly, try to clean off as much of the old glue as you can, especially for the gunk on the post. Use good glue like E600 and apply it with the tip of a toothpick. When applying the glue, try to get some down into the drill hole. Don’t use too much because it spreads easily and then the glue will on the body of the pearl. The pearl shouldn't be worn until the glue is completely cured.

If you love handcrafted jewelry, why not do it yourself? Just take a first try!

Cultured Pearls in China

Today, almost all the pearls in the market are cultured pearls. Freshwater pearls and saltwater pearls are all regarded as cultured pearls. Cultured pearls are grown inside oysters and mollusks in the same way as natural pearls. The only difference is that while natural pearls occur randomly in nature, cultured pearls are created when a pearl farmer deliberately injects an irritant into the oyster. Cultured pearls are often sold by size (diameter of the pearl) while natural pearls are sold by weight (carat of the pearl).

Nearly all pearls sold in the open market are cultured. This is because cultured pearls are much more numerous and easy to produce and harvest than natural pearls. Thus, cultured pearl jewelry is much more common. Cultured pearls do not have as many surface blemishes as natural pearls tend to have, but they can have more bumps and dents. Cultured pearls tend to have a regular, almost round shape.

Pearl cultivation began in China and was imported to Europe in the 17th century. As the technology improved and pearl cultivation became more profitable, it grew as a business in the late 18th and early 19th centuries until cultivated pearls became the dominant type of genuine pearls found on the market today.

Nowadays, Japan and China are major global suppliers of cultured pearls. In fact, Chinese pearls account for approximately 96% of pearls sold everywhere in the world. Even most pearls sold as Japanese were actually grown on Chinese pearl farms.

Shecy Pearl Jewelry's pearl-production plant is located in Hepu, Beihai city, Guangxi. It is the source of China's finest pearls for centuries and is well known as"the Southern Pearl County". Guangxi is the province in the south-west of China. Guangxi Hepu has cultivated and produced the highest yield of cultured pearls since 1960s. The favorable temperature and sheltered bays offer an ideal living condition for pearls. There is an ancient saying in China: "The West pearls are not as good as the East pearls. But the East pearls are not as good as the South pearls—Hepu pearls." Hepu's fine pearls are considered a national treasure to this day, and were once a valuable tribute to Chinese emperors.

China's first large cultured pearl farm was built in Hepu in 1958. Located in the Guangxi Province in southern China, beside the South Sea and between two rivers, Hepu is an ideal place for pearl cultivation. It has few storms, so oysters can grow in peace in Hepu's calm waters. The water temperature and salinity are perfectly suited to growing pearl-producing oysters. This is why Hepu has been considered China's foremost "pearl town" for centuries.

All of Shecy Pearl Jewelry's fine cultured saltwater pearls come straight from pearl farm in legendary Hepu - South China Sea pearl town. Shecy Pearls freshwater pearls are from Chinese freshwater pearl town - Shanxiahu, Zhejiang. Zhejiang is an eastern coastal province of China, serving as the source for China's freshwater pearls. China produces more than 95 percent of world pearl production. The rich resources of cultured pearls (saltwater and freshwater pearls) ensure us to offer our customers the best quality of pearls with favorable price.

How Much You Know about Gold Jewelry ?

If you visit ShecyPearls, you will find there are many pearl jewelry with K gold here. Gold jewelry never goes out of style, and for good reason, because gold is as wearer-friendly as it is beautiful. This is the reason why Shecy pearl jewelry with gold is popular. Generally speaking, you can find our pearl jewelry is marked 18K gold and 14K gold.

What is 18K or14K gold? Are there any differences from pure gold? Karat(carat) is called for K for short. The carat (abbreviation ct or kt) is a measure of the purity of gold alloys, 24 carat being pure gold. In the United States and Canada, the spelling karat (abbreviation k or kt) is used. The higher the karat number, the higher the percentage of gold. Here is some information for gold with different karat.

The carat system is increasingly being complemented or superseded by the millesimal fineness system in which the purity of precious metals is denoted by parts per thousand of pure metal in the alloy. The most common carats used for gold in bullion, jewelry making and by goldsmiths are:

24 carat (millesimal fineness 999 or higher)

22 carat (millesimal fineness 916)

21 carat (millesimal fineness 875)

20 carat (millesimal fineness 833)

18 carat (millesimal fineness 750)

15 carat (millesimal fineness 625)

14 carat (millesimal fineness 585)

10 carat (millesimal fineness 417)

9 carat (millesimal fineness 375)

8 carat (millesimal fineness 333)

1 carat (millesimal fineness 042)

• 24K gold is pure gold.

• 18K gold contains 18 parts gold and 6 parts of one or more additional metals, making it 75% gold.

• 14K gold contains 14 parts gold and 10 parts of one or more additional metals, making it 58.3% gold.

• 12K gold contains 12 parts gold and 12 parts of one or more additional metals, making it 50% gold.

• 10K gold contains 10 parts gold and 14 parts of one or more additional metals, making it 41.7% gold. 10K gold is the minimum karat that can be called "gold" in the United States.

European gold jewelry is marked with numbers that indicate their percentage of gold, such as:

• 18K gold is marked 750 to indicate 75% gold

• 14K gold is marked 585 for 58.5%

• 10K gold is marked 417 for 41.7%

Maybe you are puzzled why are other metals mixed with gold. As a matter of fact, pure gold is soft and isn't practical for daily wear. Other metals are mixed with it to make it more durable (and to lower its cost).

When metals are added to the gold the result is an alloy, a blended mixture of the metals that you can think of as a very expensive cake batter. Solid gold is a term that can be used to describe an item that's at least 10K (in the US) gold all the way through. Even though it's a gold alloy--18K, 14K, or anything down to 10K--it can be called solid gold.

Solid gold is durable, so it is a better choice for jewelry you'll wear regularly. If you have allergies to nickel or other metals, choose items that have high gold content, such as 18K or 22K gold jewelry.

What is Mabe Pearl?

Mabe pearl is a dome-shaped cultured pearl grown on the inner shell of a mollusk. Different from the pearls we often see, mabe pearl is a kind of semi-spherical cultured pearl. It has two sides. One side is flat and the other side is round. The word "mabe" comes from the Amami dialect of the Ryukyuan language in Japan.

Mabe pearls are identified by their unusual shape which results from the manner in which the pearls grow. The process to cultivate Mabe pearls is different from the normal ones. The common mollusk for mabe pearls is Pteria penguin, or penguin wing oyster. It is found across the world in semi-tropical and tropical seas. Until it is harvested from the mollusk, the mabe pearl is considered a blister pearl. The mabe pearl is formed by first implanting a nucleus (pearl starter) to the interior side of the mollusk shell, instead of inside the mollusk's tissue. Once ready to harvest, the pearl is cut from the mollusk along with the attached shell. The shell backing and nucleus are removed. The pearl's hollow is filled with resin and a mother of pearl backing is placed on it. As a matter of fact, people spent long time and made great effort to cultivate mabe pearls from 19th century to 70’s in 20th century. As the development of cultivating techniques, the mabe pearls can be produced in large quantities.

Mabe pearls can come in many colors and sizes, and even shapes. As long as one side is flat, it is a mabe pearl. It can be round on the other side or oblong. The rarest mabe pearls are ones that are pink with gold swirls. Mabe pearls can be rainbow-like in color, containing several high-gloss colors. Their texture and luster is superior to that of a normal round pearl, but will never be as valuable because of the flat side.

Mabe pearl becomes popular in recent years because of its beautiful iridescence and luster. While everyone is still wearing normal pearl jewelry, you will be super chic in this kind of special one. Due to its special shape, mabe pearls are widely used for pearl earrings, pearl pendants and pearl rings.

Tell me this Mabe pearl set isn't adorable!?? They are designed to be classic. I have to admit that this kind of pearl style is usually considered to be plain and simple. But it never goes out of fashion. It is something you can have on no matter what you're wearing. For me, if we can wear them on a daily basis that means is worth more.

The circle design is gorgeous and though there are not many diamonds around the mabe pearl, but the mabe pearl pendant looks so chic and eye-catching. It is easily for everyday wear. The mabe pearl pendant is simple, but beautiful with incredible detail. The blue mabe pearl pendant keeps consistent with the simplistic beauty theme, and is very in tune with nature with its natural colors and shapes.
